Safely Reducing Environmental Risks. We are cleaning up contaminated, unused facilities on the Oak Ridge Reservation (ORR). In addition to removing excess facilities, we maintain facilities across ORR that are waiting for disposition. We also provide critical upgrades to extend the life of active, but aging, facilities. This continues the same work done by the former UCOR from 2011 to 2022.

UCOR's Mental Wellbeing Center was featured at the recent North America's Building Trades Unions (NABTU) Legislative Conference, introduced by NABTU President Sean McGarvey, who was in Oak Ridge for the Center's ribbon-cutting event earlier this year. The video highlights remarks from McGarvey and other key stakeholders.

Oak Ridge Crews Prepare Fission Production Lab for Demolition
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Oak Ridge Office of Environmental Management (OREM) notched a significant cleanup achievement after crews finished characterizing all 21 hot cells at a Cold War facility, a complex task that informs plans to safety remove waste and prepare the structure for demolition. As part of the characterization work, OREM and cleanup contractor UCOR identified the types and levels of contamination in the former Fission Production Development Lab, known as Building 3517, at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

Crews Remove Legacy Waste Stored at ORNL for Over 50 Years
Gone from Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is legacy radioactive waste that had been stored there for more than 50 years, thanks to continued cleanup progress from the Oak Ridge Office of Environmental Management (OREM) and contractor UCOR. Employees at the Transuranic Waste Processing Center recently completed processing and shipment of a highly radioactive source, comprised of the isotope radium-226 and boron, out of state for permanent disposal.
